Twenty one cases of renal failure have been studied to find out the incidence, degree and type of hearing loss associated with renal disease and the effect of dialysis on hearing thresholds. Less than20% of the cases of renal failure have been found to have hearing impairment. No correlation has been encountered between hearing loss and various biochemical parameters however, the hearing deterioration has been found to be directly related to the duration of the renal disease. The effect of ototoxic drugs and dialysis being inseparable, it is not possible to state dogmatically any effect of haemodialysis on hearing thresholds.en_US
