Abstract: The SAL test is found to have shown a good agreement between B. C. thresholds and sensorineural acuity thresholds particularly in safe type of CSOM and tubal dysfunction cases from a study conducted in health and dseases. It seems that the western norms of A. C. threshold shift and SAL differ from that of Indians. SAL test does not elicit Carhart’s notch as in the conventional B. C. tests, in otosclerotic cases. However, SAL test may be utilised as a clinical tool for determining cochlear function.
