Abstract: Selection of hearing aid has been a controversial problem in clinical audiology. Message to competion (noise) ratios is a procedure with a new philosophy that attracted popularity in many a place. A group of sixty hearing handicapped persons (with 55–90 dB loss) were studied with this technique using 4-different types of aids. Its applicability was evaluated in 44 persons while in 16 others it could not be done. Its indication and use were reviewed. The efficacy of Conventional procedures were also compared with this technique. It was, no doubt, found to have great potential in predicting the possible results of using a particular hearing aid and thus helps the patient as well as the doctor and audiologist in dispensing an aid in the clinical practice.
