A pilot study of the incidence of speech handicaps among Indian school children indicates a significant number and percentage of children with these problems in a private school in an urban area. Repeated studies in private and public schools, in rural and urban communities, and in different geographical areas can be helpful in determining the need for the development of services and the training of personnel to meet these needs. Moreover, the methodology demonstrated appears feasible as investigation procedure, especially with the appropriate adaptation of the test materials to the language of the group studied.en_US
