dc.description.abstractIt is n known fact that durational analysis leads to a better knowledge about speech produc-‘ion am-1 pflegption. The present study aimed at identifying some of the variables influencing the durations of Kannada Vowels ll3l-ii]. U] l) in the initial position. 82 trisyllebic meaningful Kannada words were uttered by ésubiects (3 males and 3 females) in the age range of 2240 years. Durational measurements were done usingtbe High Resolution Signal Analyser. The stud)’revealed that voicing, aspiration, clustering, nasality and place of articulation of the post vocalic consonant and the tongue beightinfihenced the vowel duration. in addition to these sex played a major role in that the female k hd lo d I" ti0r| S than the male speakers.
